KS1
Year One
To support the transition from the early years, into Year 1 the children begin the year using an Early Years style. This includes continuous provision coupled with adult-led carpet sessions and small group work. As the term progresses, the children then move towards a more formal learning approach (as and when they are ready). This supports them in developing greater independence. At the end of Year One all children take part in a statutory phonics screening test, which assesses how individual children are progressing in phonics. It is designed to confirm whether pupils have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. (more details on this can be found on our - Little Wandle Page'

Year Two
During their time in Year Two, we support the children in becoming more independent. They learn not only new skills and knowledge but also a range of strategies to tackle any learning that comes their way. Children’s independence is built upon, and they are supported to apply this across the curriculum. At the end of Year Two the children take part in optional Key Stage One SATs tests, which support teachers in assessing pupils attainment and progress at the end of Key Stage One using these and their own teacher knowledge.
