History of the School
St. James' School was established in 1834 and moved to the present site in 1969. It is a Church of England Voluntary Aided School for boys and girls aged from four to eleven. Children are admitted to the School in the September prior to their fifth birthday.

Governors and staff regard the school as a large family in which everyone is valued. It is in the child's home that learning begins and standards of behaviour are set. At school we build upon the child's earlier experiences. The involvement of parents in the life and work of the school is, therefore welcomed and fostered right from the beginning.

The school thrives on achievement and is proud to be a developing, improving and learning school. We believe firmly in self-reflection and regularly evaluate our practices in order to ensure that we are providing the best educational service possible. In recognition of our efforts we have been awarded the following accreditations:-
• Investors in People. (Valuing all our team and ensuring personal development and learning for all)
• Basic skills Charter Mark. (Literacy and Numeracy systems within the school giving maximum encouragement to the development of these areas.
• School Achievement Award. (School success over a period of time)

These are achievements that we will build on as the school continues to develop.
